Configuring your POP mail software (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora) to access a Nocturne email account

Once you are issued a Nocturne email address, you need to configure your mail software to access the account.

Refer to the online help that comes with your mail software to find out exactly how to make changes to your settings.

You will need to add a new email account to your mail client, and specify the POP server (where your incoming mail comes from), the SMTP server (where your outgoing mail goes), your account username and your account password (both of which come from Nocturne Support).

Typically, the option you need to find in your mail client is called Accounts. In Outlook, select Accounts from the Tools menu.

Once you add a new account, you'll be presented with a range of fields that ask for your name, reply address, and other information. You should enter your full name in any Name fields, but you can leave most other fields blank.

When you get to the server address page or tab, you need to enter the information that Nocturne has provided:

  • For the incoming mail server (POP server), enter smtp.compmore.net

  • For the outgoing mail server (SMTP server), enter whichever server your ISP has provided. (If you are an NBNet/Sympatico subscriber in New Brunswick, enter smtp.nb.sympatico.ca.)

  • For the username (user, or account name), enter the username that Nocturne Support sent to you.

  • For the password, enter the pw that Nocturne Support sent to you.

Once you have entered these settings, you can enter any additional settings that you want to use to customize the operation of your mail client for this account. (For example, you may want to limit the size of emails that you receive, or leave mail on the server so that you can access it at home and at work.)

Try checking your email to make sure that you are receiving Nocturne email. (A test message is sent to your address the first time it is set up.) If you are setting up mail on a second computer, email yourself at your Nocturne address to make sure it is receiving.

If you are not receiving, make sure that the account is set up for automatic download. (In Outlook, open the account's properties and make sure that the Synchronize on Send and Receive option is selected.)

If you experience problems, call Dave at 506-643-8490, or email Nocturne Support at support@nocturne.ca.
