Nocturne Communications - equipment status - SONY VAIO Picturebook laptop
Model: PCG-141A-C1VN
Serial: 28316030 3105922
Problems requiring warranty repair:
- hard drive is failed
- keyboard has sticky keys at T, R, E, 5 etc; intermittent. keys actuate without being pressed past detente.
- pointing device is erratic and requires replacement
- built-in camera has a loose connection that causes signal breakup when it is rotated
- modem is unable to maintain connections for periods of time (intermittent problem)
- BP51A battery has an incredibly short life. (This problem was originally reported August 2001. The out of box battery life was about 1.5 hrs. Now it is about 20 minutes. The battery utility misreports battery life and appears to get erroneous data from the battery.)
- there are bluescreen problems with insertion or removal of some PCMCIA storage devices that work fine on every other laptop here. Problem has persisted despite several reformats/reinstallations of SONY software, and occurs even on a "virgin" factory install of the operating system software.
Repair status with SONY
Originally submitted for repair in Vancouver in Jan 2002. At that time was unable to get repairs performed under Platinum Warranty conditions because of problems within SONY operations. Parts were ordered by SONY but unit was returned to Nocturne prior to any repairs.
Communications extended in February 2002 with Mitch at SONY Warranty dept regarding. They ordered in the parts ahead of time. I can now send in the laptop for repair under the guaranteed time conditions. No RMA was issued for this repair.
